I love the book stack trend right now. I think it’s such a pretty, simple way to add a different texture/color/height to any table or shelf you’re decorating. All the book stacks I’ve seen are stamped on, which is very pretty, but I wanted to incorporate my cricut and vinyl to give me a different font option. Plus, I already had vinyl and a cricut machine and no stamps. If you prefer the stamped look, hobby lobby has a set for $6.
I think these stacks are so pretty and I believe anyone that appreciates “farmhouse decor” would love these as a gift! You can always add family names, sayings, time/date of birth of a child, or anything really instead of a location.
My goal for this project was to spend as little as possible (always
) so I used only supplies I had at home already + 3 books I purchased at the dollar tree. I’d also recommend checking out Goodwill and your library to find books even cheaper. I just happened to already be at the dollar tree when I had the idea to give this a try.
1. Gather your supplies. You’ll need books, ribbon, twine, vinyl, and optional: hot glue gun.
2. Remove covers from all of your books
3. In design space, select your desired font (I used Everything for the city/state and I Love Glitter for the zip code – I downloaded both from dafont.com) and resize your letters to fit on your book spines. My books were right at an inch so that is the size I used.
4. Cut your vinyl and weed.
5. Using transfer tape, apply your vinyl words to the spines of your books.
6. Optional: Using a hot glue gun, put a little glue on the corners of your bottom book and lay the middle book on top of it. Repeat for top book so that they are all glued together. This step isn’t required, but I think it helps to keep the books from slipping when I’m typing the ribbon/twine around it.
7. Add one piece of ribbon around your entire book. I used my hot glue gun to glue my ribbon in place, too, but that is also optional as you can always just tie it. (I ended up switching ribbons last minute when I realized the buffalo plaid doesn’t go with my entry table decor all year round and I didn’t want it to look seasonal).
8. Add twine over your ribbon and tie on the top. I wrapped the twine around my burlap ribbon 5 times total but you can do as much or as little as you want.
9. Done! Display your books!
Tip: If your book seems a little warped, add some “stuffing” (extra/leftover ribbon, twine, etc.) between layers.
